Smart Sparrow - Adaptive Learning

Smart Sparrow is an adaptive learning technology that provides developers software tools through a wed-based suite to create learning content and applications.  Adaptive learning is an educational method using computer algorithms to deliver custom learning experiences that are unique to the individual learner.  There is an interactivity that the technology provides that gives the learner feedback, resources, and pathways.  Below are some screen shots of a project I am developing for my ETEC 6550 course.  It is a module on Writing the Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines for my high school Geometry students.

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a social learning platform that allows students to respond to their teacher's prompts in video form.  Fellow classmates can then respond to each other either in video or text form.  I used Flipgrid a few of times for course projects in order to increase my learner-learner interactions and allow students to verbalize and explain solutions to selected Geometry work.  I continue to use Flipgrid in my practice.  I found out about Flipgrid and this method of use in a math classroom through my own learner-learner interactions in the ETEC program.

Edpuzzle

Edpuzzle is a web based teaching tool used to allow educators and students interactivity into pre-existing or self produced videos.  Teachers can not only provide instructional videos, but include questions where the video stops and the student must answer to check for understanding.  Edpuzzle keeps track of student progress and correctness of posted questions.  It is a great tool for learner-content interactions in that the student must be engaged and interact with the video.  I used Edpuzzle more than a few times in my course projects and linked below.

Learning Management Systems

Google Classroom

Prior to the current distance learning mode, I dabbled a bit with Google Classroom.  Then, it was used more for a space where I posted my lesson notes and instructional videos for those students that missed class or needed more review.  Today, it is the central hub of my teaching through distance learning.

Powerschool

Powerschool has been the staple learning management system in our district for the last few years.  Attendance, gradebooks, access to online textbooks, parent access to student grades, communication between teachers and parents, amongst many other features are available through Powerschool.
